Emma Bacchus

Specialist Author Oncology

Emma is a dedicated oncology pharmacist with a focus on patient safety and optimised patient care and has over 25 years of experience across community pharmacy, primary and secondary care and research.

She specialises in systemic anti-cancer treatments (SACT), clinical trials and medicines optimisation. Emma holds the BOPA (British Oncology Pharmacy Association) Digital SACT Verification Passport, ensuring high-level competency in SACT verification, alongside Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training, supporting the safe and ethical conduct of clinical trials. Emma has held senior pharmacy leadership roles within the NHS, including Principal Pharmacist for Clinical Trials within a large NHS Trust, where she led service harmonisation and supported the delivery of complex research studies. She currently practices as a senior oncology pharmacist in the independent sector, supporting the delivery of SACT to patients. In addition to this, Emma provides specialist clinical trials knowledge to a mental health trust, enabling them to run clinical trials in dementia. Emma was previously an expert member of the Research Ethics Committee, ensuring all research appropriately considered the rights and wellbeing of participants.

As a pharmacy support author for Mistura, Emma contributes specialist oncology insight to support safe, evidence-based information for cancer medicines.

Outside of work, Emma has six children and a springer spaniel. She enjoys, the theatre, cinema and reading as well as regular exercise where time permits!
